1. Making The Choice To Rejoice
Contributed on Jan 11, 2020
Rejoicing in the Lord is a choice we must make, not a feeling. Our joy must be in the Lord, not in our circumstances. This sermon gives three actions we must make to keep making the choice to rejoice.
Intro Philippians 4:4 is one of the simplest verses in the Bible to understand, but it is one of the hardest to practice. It makes for great preaching and difficult practicing. To “rejoice in the Lord always ” does not mean we should never feel depressed or sad. Jesus felt sadness at the grave ...read more

2. Our Citizenship Is In Heaven
Contributed on Jan 11, 2020
Because we are citizens of Heaven, our minds should be set on Heavenly things. This sermon shows what is and should be true since we are citizens of Heaven.
Introduction One October afternoon in 1982, Badger Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin, was packed. More than 60,000 die-hard University of Wisconsin supporters were watching their football team take on the Michigan State Spartans. It soon became obvious that MSU had the better team. What seemed odd ...read more

3. Win The Race
Contributed on Jan 11, 2020
In our text in Phil 3:12-16, Paul’s not telling us how to be saved. He’s telling us how to live now that we are saved. We are not saved BY good works but we are saved TO good works.
Several times in the New Testament the Christian life is pictured as a race 1 Cor. 9:24-27 (ESV) says, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to ...read more

4. The Losses And Gains Of Knowing Christ
Contributed on Jan 11, 2020
Trusting in Christ and our good works for salvation is not trusting in Christ at all. We have to give everything up as far as our good works, our religion, our morality in order to receive Christ as our Savior.
Introduction In the 1730’ s in England, a young man named George Whitefield desperately wanted to be right before God. As a student at Oxford, he was part of the Holy Club, along with John and Charles Wesley. The members of that club rose early every day for lengthy devotions. They disciplined ...read more

5. Look Out For False Teachers
Contributed on Jan 11, 2020
The Bible teaches that Satan is a master counterfeiter, trying to pass off on people a version of Christianity that looks good but will not be accepted by God in Heaven.
Introduction: Have you ever had a counterfeit bill? That’s never happened to me. But sometimes, today, people can get scammed into buying a counterfeit ticket to a sporting event or concert or even buying a counterfeit product that was cheaply made to look like the real thing. The Bible ...read more

6. Do All Things Without Grumbling And Disputing
Contributed on Jan 11, 2020
Grumbling and disputing is a poor testimony for a child of God.
I heard a story about an old lady that walked into a department store one day and was surprised when an executive pinned a flower on her dress and gave her a $100 bill. She was the store’s one millionth customer. A tv reporter asked her, “just what did you come into the store for today?” To ...read more

7. The Joy Of Sanctification
Contributed on Jan 11, 2020
Paul is not teaching salvation by works. He is teaching that we should work out what God has worked in.
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure” What is the topic of this passage? It is ...read more

8. Think About These Things
Contributed on Jan 18, 2020
We pick what we ponder and what we ponder, we practice. We must think Biblically.
Think About These Things Phil 4:8 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. The capacity of the ...read more

9. Learning Contentment
Contributed on Jan 25, 2020
Contentment is found in Christ not in our circumstances or our own strength
“I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me but you had no opportunity. Not that I am speaking of being in need for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how ...read more

10. The Joy Of Giving
Contributed on Feb 2, 2020
When we give, we partner with others who preach the Gospel, we plant seeds that result in blessing, and we praise God for the gift of salvation. God wants us to give because we want to, not because we have to. We should give out of the joy of our hearts for all that God has done for us.
The Joy of Giving Philippians 4:14-19 Introduction: Anytime you teach or preach on money, it can get touchy. Jesus talked about money more than any other subject, so don’t get upset with me for talking about it today. It is the next text in our series on Philippians so I am just following ...read more
