We want (maybe even expect) forgiveness from God; but when it comes to giving forgiveness, it is harder than we might think. Jesus reminds us that our receiving forgiveness hinges on our giving of it.

Trials are a part of our life in this world. They make us stronger, but there are times to ask NOT to be tested.

We are often tempted to sin as well as tested in our faith. This part of the prayer is a reminder for the source of our power to overcome such temptations.
