The “gift” of the Spirit is to be distinguished from the “gifts” of the Spirit. The latter are special endowments given to men by the Spirit; but the former is the Spirit himself, given by the Father through Christ.

9. The Foundation Which Christ Laid Through His Apostles

You are regarded as being with the people of God. You are entitled to their privileges, and are not to be regarded as outcasts and aliens. The meaning is that they belonged to the same community (the same family) as the people of God.

“Paul,” calls himself “the prisoner of Jesus Christ;” that is, a prisoner in the service of the Lord Jesus; or made a prisoner for His cause. Not a prisoner for crime or debt, or as a captive in war, but a captive in the service of the Redeemer.
