1. How Is Your Love Life
Contributed on Aug 12, 2013
There is too much emphasis in today's preaching about practical and earthly matters concerning earthly love. There is a much higher love life we need to cultivate.
How is your Love Life? I John 2:15-17 Introduction Last time we met, we discussed the new commandment which was really not new, but was the one which we have had all along. Even though John did not elaborate further on what this command was, it was obvious that it was closely tied to the ...read more

2. To Be Like Jesus
Contributed on Aug 12, 2013
Thomas a Kempis wrote a famous book called :The Imitation of Christ". Good idea. What does this text teach about it?
To Be Like Jesus 1 John 3:1-6 Exposition of the Text Verse 1: See what kind of love the Father has given to us that we should be called children of God, and we are. Wherefore the world does not know us because it did not know Him. “What kind of love” here has the meaning of ...read more

3. Will The Real Holy Spirit Please Stand Up?
Contributed on Aug 12, 2013
It is a terrible mistake to separate the Work of the Holy Spirit from the Person and work of Jesus Christ as revealed in Scripture
Will the Real Holy Spirit Please Stand Up? I John 4:1-6 Introduction We have seen that sound doctrine and sound love are both essential to the Christian faith and must be held together and not against each other. Living in love and living the truth of the gospel are what gives us assurance ...read more

4. Saving Knowledge
Contributed on Aug 12, 2013
How does one come to faith in Christ. And just what is saving faith?
Saving Knowledge I John 2:1-6 Introduction Last week, we talked about our relationship we have in Jesus Christ in terms of light and darkness. Our fellowship with the Father requires us to be pure light without any dark spot. And we all too well know that this makes any fellowship with the ...read more

5. The Truth Hurts, But Here's Help
Contributed on Aug 12, 2013
John describes the universal lost condition of humankind and its cure in six short verses, what Paul in Romans takes chapters to develop
The Truth Hurts, But There's Help I John 1:5-10 Introduction Last week, we saw the importance of grounding our faith in Jesus who is both God and human. John wanted us to know that he witnessed with his eyes, ears, and hand the earthly Jesus. This experience had forever changed John, and now ...read more

6. We Must Love As God Loves
Contributed on Aug 12, 2013
When it comes to love, God has set a high bar, Himself.
We Must Love as God Loves I John 4:7-15 Introduction Last week, we were asked to test the spirits. This is because not every spiritual event comes from the Holy Spirit. There is a spirit of error which comes from the antichrist as well as the Spirit of Truth which comes from God. The Holy ...read more

7. Living In Jesus
Contributed on Aug 12, 2013
Sometimes we find the devil attending church.
Living in Jesus I John 2:22-29 Introduction Last week, we were introduced to the Antichrist. In fact many antichrists had come already. John goes further do describe them as coming out from the church itself. The source of their teaching might have come from the pit of hell, but the actual ...read more

8. True Love
Contributed on Aug 13, 2013
How can we be assured of our election? It is demonstrated in our love for God, then our brethren, then our neighbors, and finally to our enemies
True Love I John 3:13-18 Introduction In the previous section, we are told that what one does defines the person. A person is not who he/she claims to be unless they can back their words with actions. If one speaks like Jesus and acts like the devil, he/she is the latter. The principal ...read more

9. The Christian Walk
Contributed on Aug 13, 2013
We who claim to be Christians must be sure they are on the true path.
The Christian Walk 1 John 2:7-14 Introduction Last week we learned that sin is not normal in the Christian. The Christian’s sin does not affect just that person, but the entire body of Christ. We saw from the plural "we have an advocate" that there has to at least be a sense in which ...read more
