If man is predestined by God then does human free will even exist? If there is no free will how can God hold men accountable for their sin?

Has God predetermined all the wickedness, pain, and destruction we see all around the world every day? If God waits on the choices of men in order to have relationship; does that deny His sovereignty?

Paul is asking God to give us spiritual eyes to understand the hope we have been called to. What is the hope we have been called to? Is it Sunday morning Church attendance and trying to be good people?

Paul is praying that the Ephesian Christians will have spiritual eyes to see not only the hope that God has called them to but also the glorious inheritance that belongs to all who are in Christ

Did God at some point in Church history cease from moving supernaturally in the earth or is the power of God still at work? Is God still speaking, still moving, still at work in miraculous ways?

As Christians we are still in the world, we participate in culture, business, almost everything – however, we are of a different substance, our treasure is elsewhere our citizenship is in another land. Everything HAS changed!

I know I need to change, I am painfully aware of the chasm between what I am in Christ and how I appear to be but all of my diligent effort actually takes me in the opposite direction. Rules do not produce obedient hearts; rules breed rebellion.

In order to reveal the miracle of unity that exists in Christ, Paul lays down the harsh reality of how divided the fall has left us. He doesn’t want the Ephesians (or us) to miss the weight of this thing. He doesn’t want a “no big deal” attitude to arise
