Nehemiah was probably chosen for his position at court for his reliability, for his quick wits, for his initiative and probably for his grasp of palace politics but clearly he also had a deep spiritual maturity that shows itself as he turns to prayer.

2. The Leader & Organisation

Nehemiah prays before acting, does his research, then Nehemiah identifies himself with the people of Jerusalem, and so the leaders commit themselves to the common good

3. The Leader And The Work

Nehemiah has got them to agree to rebuild but now it needs to be organised. They get all the people involved in groups according to their ability though there are a few who refuse to get involved.

Despite opposition Nehemiah keeps them building. He organises the work to go on. We too experience opposition but can trust God to help us to persevere.

5. Leadership And Justice

Here we find a whole series of problems of economic injustice that are brought to Nehemiah. Nehemiah's solution is to call them back to the original God had given Israel and to recommit himself and his leadership team to following these laws themselves.
