1. A King Forgotten And Foretold
Contributed on May 17, 2013
God is the Holy One who expects his people to be holy just as he is holy, but at the same time he’s the God of irresistible grace who forgives us and promises to defend us and protect us from all the attacks of the evil one. But we have to remain faithful
A King Forgotten It’s a tragic story isn’t it? A nation chosen, indeed created, by God to be his special possession. A nation nurtured and helped along at every point. Rescued from captivity in Egypt, given the law to direct their daily lives, given priests and kings to guide them; and ...read more

2. Isaiah's Commission
Contributed on May 17, 2013
If we keep our focus firmly on God and on bringing glory to him; we will see him move in power; we will tremble at his presence; and we will love his world with a heavy heart beat.
Sermon by Heather Cetrangolo There are moments in life that make us quake. There are moments that make us tremble on the inside … and sometimes we tremble on the outside. We tremble when we’re nervous, when we’re afraid, when we’re overwhelmed by emotion, and sometimes ...read more

3. The Song Of The Vineyard
Contributed on May 17, 2013
A Love song - from a disappointed lover - God is going to judge his unfaithful people.
I grew up in the 60’s listening to the Beatles. If you know anything about their music you’ll know that most of it was love songs: ‘I want to hold your hand’, ‘She loves you’, ‘From me to you’. And it was a winner because everyone loves a love song ...read more

4. The Prince Of Peace
Contributed on Feb 14, 2014
Peace is rare in this world. Only Jesus can bring true peace. We need to work with him to bring peace where we are.
Israel was a divided nation during Isaiah’s life … and the two kingdoms were under threat of foreign invasion. That threat became a reality in Isaiah’s lifetime. By 722 BCE the Assyrians had conquered the northern kingdom and ten tribes (of the 12) had been relocated and ...read more

5. Judgement On The Oppressor
Contributed on Feb 14, 2014
When things get tough we sometimes wonder whether God is present with us. Bot God is always here and his promises never fail. He will judge those who do wrong in his world. He is constant in his judgements.
Well let me begin by saying this is a difficult reading. It’s a difficult reading not only because we need to understand something of the complex history between Assyria and Judah and the covenant relationship between God and the people of Israel … but even more fundamentally it’s ...read more

6. Devastation And Restoration
Contributed on Feb 14, 2014
Don't take God’s grace for granted; remember that with the privilege of being God’s people comes the responsibility to remain faithful; to allow God to be God in every part of our lives. God judges the people of Israel with a view to their restoration
The great temptation for Christians as well as for the Jews is the temptation to take God’s grace for granted; even worse, to feel a sense of superiority, of smugness, because we’re part of God’s chosen people. The way to overcome that temptation is to remember that with the ...read more

7. Recognising The Voice Of Evil
Contributed on Feb 14, 2014
The people of ISrael were tempted to disbelieve God, to listen to the voice of Sennacherib. They, like us, needed to recognise the voice of evil and reject it.
Sermon by Rev Heather Cetrangolo How big is too big? A hundred? Two hundred? A thousand? Ten thousand? What’s your general feeling about mega-churches? We don’t really trust them, do we? We don’t really like it when people visit our church and later decide to join, GWAC, or ...read more

8. See Your King Is Coming
Contributed on Feb 14, 2014
Comfort is something that we all need from time to time. But where do you look for comfort> Is it to the living God who ave us his word to reassure us that he has all things in his hand and who sends us his Holy Spirit to strengthen and renew us?
“Comfort, Comfort, my People, says your God.” Do you sometimes feel the need for comfort. Cadbury’s and Lindt make a lot of money out of that feeling don’t they? But when you hear a passage like this does it speak to an inner longing? That sense that you need someone else to ...read more

9. Fear Not For I Have Redeemed You - Ca
Contributed on Feb 14, 2014
God is punishing Israel but he hasn't abandoned them. He’s a loving father who knows his child must be punished but only to bring them back to him. We’re to show to those who have no faith in God hat God is real and active in the world.
The people are in a desperate situation. They’re described in ch42 as being blind and deaf, imprisoned in darkness. God’s patience has worn out and he’s on the warpath. Listen to what he says to them: “42:13The LORD goes forth like a soldier, like a warrior he stirs up his ...read more

10. False God Or True
Contributed on Feb 14, 2014
Will we remain faithful to the one and only true and living God? Will we trust him alone for security, for salvation? Or will we look to other gods, false gods who offer much but deliver nothing?
Do you ever struggle with whether your understanding of God is correct? Do you ever wonder whether we might have got it wrong? After all, there are lots of voices in the world today that are questioning the orthodox view of God, of Christianity. There are lots of people out there offering an ...read more

We are Jesus body in the world. The glory of God is made manifest through us. We sit on David’s throne, to lead and command the nations. We are his beautiful people.

12. Arise, Shine For Your Light Has Come
Contributed on Feb 15, 2014
Jesus came to bring the fulfilment of this prophecy of Isaiah 60 & 61. He’s the one who brings light into the world. He’s the one who brings liberty and forgiveness and true freedom.
We come today to the end of our series on Isaiah and to the climax of the book. Here we find God’s salvation brought to its culmination. God has come to dwell with his people; and the whole world is drawn to him to receive the salvation he offers. It’s as though Isaiah sees a vision ...read more
