1. The Storms Of Life
Contributed on Apr 16, 2007
This is the first part of our series on James. We talked about the difference between trials and temptations and how to handle them.
We are starting a brand new series today called a search for what is real. Between now and the end of June we are going to be walking through one of my favorite books of the Bible, and one of the most controversial ones, the book of James. When I was in college, I led a small group of high ...read more

Contributed on May 12, 2007
This is part 2 in our series on James. We dove into how to deal with anger. Is anger ever okay? Why do we get angry? How do we handle it?
I know many of you have seen the images on the news about what happened at Virginia Tech this past week. As I was watching, I thought, this really puts what we talk about last week to the test. Last week we started our series on the book of James and we looked at how we react to trials, ...read more

3. Playing Favorites
Contributed on May 12, 2007
All of play favorites. It has become so common place that nobody raises an eyebrow to it. In fact, if you don’t play favorites, you stand out.
For many of us, when we think of high school we have moments when we cringe. Maybe it is when you see a picture of yourself of what you looked like. The picture from prom. Or a picture form your air guitar band. You knew that was coming back. Maybe though, you can remember the feeling of ...read more

Contributed on May 12, 2007
How do you know if faith is real? Is it possible to have a faith that is fake? How do you know the difference? Where do works fit with faith? Are they extra, needed for salvation?
This weekend was a cool weekend in the life of our church. On Friday, the women’s ministry had a come n go dessert, and even though I wasn’t there, I heard it was a good time. 6. Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?
Contributed on May 19, 2007
Wisdom is something we would all like. In this pivotal passage in James, which is often tied to wisdom, I think is really about the peace of God. And how God’s wisdom leads to his peace.
Life constantly lays choices before us. Many are mundane and ordinary: If we say yes to fish at a restaurant, we also say no to chicken, beef and every other meat. To order one dessert is, in a way, to reject the other desserts. Some are bigger. When you get married, as your vows say, you ...read more

7. Too Christian, Too Pagan
Contributed on May 29, 2007
Most Christians want to take Jesus into their world, but feel inadequate to do so. Instead, we build walls to keep the world out, which isn’t the answer either. This sermon helps give steps to help people show Jesus in their world without selling out.
Good morning everyone. My name is Josh, and I am one of the leaders here at Beginnings. We are really glad you decided to hang out with us this morning. Let’s pray as we move on this morning. Maybe you are able to relate to that clip. Many of us want to make a difference in our world. We ...read more

Many people in our culture are planners, in fact, our culture holds up planning ahead as an ideal. But what does the Bible say? Does planning ahead take God out of the equation?

Contributed on Jun 14, 2007
How do you handle what God has given you? Is it okay to buy from companies that use sweatshops or mistreat their employees? What role do Christians have in that area?
If you have your bible, you can open them to the book of Isaiah chapter 58, verse 6, which is on p. 522 if you grabbed a bible in the lobby. Isaiah is what is called a prophet. Prophets were not popular people, most of them met untimely deaths, but prophets were the people that God used to speak ...read more

Contributed on Jul 10, 2007
All of us at one point or another wonder if prayer works? Does God hear us? Do our prayers just hit the ceiling and bounce back?
Today, we are finishing our series A Search for what is real. We have been looking at what a real faith, a real spirituality looks like. Let me ask you something, have you ever asked the question, does prayer really work? Maybe you know someone who always seems to have their prayers answered and ...read more
