If I go into my backyard and work hard 14 hours a day to dig a big hole, what good will that do? Surely, I’ll be doing more work than probably anybody in this room. I’d be working hard. And hard work is rewarding, or so our culture tells us. But I don’t need a big hole. My work would be useless. All my energy would be wasted.
