John 19:25-27 "Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His Mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw His Mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His Mother, 'Woman, behold your son!' Then He said to the disciple, 'Behold your Mother!' And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home."
I realized this week how often I have read this and thought how Jesus must have dearly loved His Mother to make arrangements for her future even as He was on that cruel cross.
While it is clear that Jesus lovingly honored His Mother by arranging for her future days, there was even more accomplished here. Remember John referred to himself as the disciple Jesus loved and knowing that John may have been a bit younger in years. Perhaps he had a more gentle disposition than some of the disciples had. Is it not likely, then, that Jesus provided this kindly disciple with the precious love and reassurance he would need for the days to come? When the world falls apart, it is so very natural to return to the safe haven of a Momma's loving arms and wisdom.
Throughout God's Word, He reminds us of how very much He cherishes the women of humanity. He created the role of Motherhood. He states clearly that mothers should be treated with honor. Ultimately, He gifts women with the opportunity of mothering. Webster's Thesaurus says that parenting means to guide and care for a child. So whether you have ever "birthed a baby" or even married, each woman has a very special gift and appointment to care for the young--wherever you are. Like Jesus' mother, there are children of all ages around us who need us to share a dose of motherly love and caring. May God pour out a special blessing on each and every woman as they share that precious part of God's heart that He sends through you! Oh how our Heavenly Father loves Mothers.
Happy Mother's Day!
