”Elijah was physically taken up into heaven in a flaming chariot of fire. God said: Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their father. Malachi 4:5-6 (KJV)
So, how would we recognize the prophet Elijah once had come?
When John was asked: are you Elijah, he denied it; Nevertheless,
Gabriel, Prophetically pointed to John as the one who would continue and fulfill Elijah’s mission, Malachi 4:5-6. (Both John and Elijah had the mission of calling the nation of Israel to repentance)
Even though John denied the fact that he was Elijah in person; Gabriel identified John, as the one who would prophetically fulfill the calling and ministry of Elijah. He stated that John would go before the Lord “in the spirit and power of Elijah.” (Luke 1:13-17)
When they asked Jesus: Why do the scribes say that Elias must first come? He answered and told them, Elias must come first, to restore all things, but, I say unto you, That Elias did come, (Mark 9:11-13)(Matt 11:14;17:10-13)
By asking John if he was Elijah the prophet, shows that Israel wrongfully awaited Elijah in the flesh. John corrected them by saying that he was not Elijah resurrected (John 1:21)
So, pointing to John, Jesus is asking you today: And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. Matt 11:14
So, what’s next: “The coming of the Lord”
Are you waiting for Elijah to come before you get ready? It would be lethal!
Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he comes shall find watching. Luke 12:37.
