TRADITIONAL FAMILY IS ALIVE
Of the nation’s 73 million children, nearly 45 million (62%) live with their biological parents, according to the Census Bureau. Another 19 million live with their unmarried, biological mothers. Based on 2004 surveys, the report also shows cohabiting families are on the rise, with 3.7 million children living with one biological parent and an unmarried partner. Jenny Tyree, Focus on the Family marriage analyst said, "Research continues to show that these children have poorer emotional health and are at higher risk to suffer abuse than their peers in married families. Marriage continues to be one of the greatest gifts a parent can give a child."
