Parents Accept Responsibility: A new Barna study finds that 85% of parents of children under 13 believe they have the primary responsibility for teaching their children about religious beliefs and spiritual matters. Just 11% say their church has the responsibility, and 1% say it is the domain of their child’s school. 96% of parents of children under age 13 contend they have the primary responsibility for teaching their children values. Just 1% say their church has that task and 1% assign the role to the child’s school. However the majority of parents do not spend any time during a typical week discussing religious matters or studying religious materials with their children.
