Ivy League Revival: As late as ‘65, a white mainline Protestant was 250% more likely to have a college degree as a white evangelical, according to Calvin College Prof. Corwin Smidt. But by ‘00, a mainline Protestant was only 65% more likely to have the same degree. And since ‘85, the percentage of incoming freshmen at Ivy League universities who said they were born-again also rose by half, to 11% or 12% each year from 7.3%, according to the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA.
