Christian Giving Down: The Empty Tomb reports that church donations have dipped to a 35 year low. As a portion of after-tax income, giving has fallen from 0.66% per capita in ’68 to 0.38% in ’02. However, The Chronicle of Philanthropy reports that giving to the 400 largest charities rose 2.3% in ’03. The journal credits their turnaround to an improving economy and a new emphasis on big donors. The EFCA states 40% of its members are still not raising as much as they did prior to 9/11. (CT 12/04)
