Marijuana: The average age of first-time marijuana users in the U.S has dropped from 19 to 13. A recent Gallup poll indicates 34% of Americans favor legalization, the greatest support since ‘69. In ‘01, 50,000 people were sentenced to prison for marijuana violations. In some states with over-crowded prisons voters and legislators are pushing for legalization. At the same time, the White House Office of National Drug Policy reports 23% of 4.5 million U.S. drug-dependent people are teens. (Current Thoughts & Trends 5/18/04)
