Church Giving Declines: Barna Research found that 78% of adults donated money to a non-profit organization or church in ‘00. That’s a 6% decline from ‘99, and a 9% drop from ‘98, when 87% of all adults had donated funds. The average giving per person fell by 15% in ‘00 to $886, versus $1377 in ’98. Born again Christians gave 16% fewer dollars to all non-profits and churches in ‘00. In ‘00, 61% gave an average of $649 to one or more churches. Born again Christians were far more generous than the average church supporter. 77% of born again adults (who constitute 4 of every 10 adults) gave $1166 to a church while 81% of evangelicals gave $2097.
