Morality In Decline: In ‘69, Gallup found that premarital sex was frowned upon by two-thirds of Americans. Today, only 38% believe it is wrong for a man and a woman to have sexual relations before marriage. 52% also believes that "living together" is morally acceptable. Expectations relating to family size have also changed over the years. In ‘36, Gallup discovered that 64% of Americans favored having 3 or more children. Today, the majority (52%) says that the ideal is less than 3. Gallup also found that 59% believe that divorce is morally acceptable, and another 12% say it depends on the situation.
