A study released by Rutgers University’s National Marriage Project found that the national marriage rate has fallen 43%, down 4% from 40 years ago. Only 30% of girls and 40% of boys responded that married people are happier than those who remain single or live with a mate out of wedlock. With so few examples of happy marriages, 53% of young women now believe that having a child out of wedlock is a “worthwhile lifestyle,” up from 33% 20 years ago. (PWB 7/8/99)
