Trusting the Lord is a recurring theme in the Prophet Isaiah. “Unless your faith is firm, you shall not be firm” Is 7: 14. Advent is a time of trusting the Lord. God alone can save those who place their trust in Him. At times we are confused concerning the choices we have to make. On the one hand the land of Judah was not in a position to muster an army and overthrow Israel while on the other hand seeking the assistance of Assyria and in the process become its slave would not be morally upright. The only option is to remain calm and rely on the Lord who is the everlasting Rock. To guard us, He sets wall and rampart about us. Our trust must be genuine and authentic. It means we are ready to commit ourselves to put into practice the teachings and directives given by the one we profess to trust. When someone claims that he trusts a particular physician, it is not enough that he listens to him willingly or is ready to accept his exact diagnosis. Above all, he must accept the proposed remedies and follow his prescriptions faithfully. In the same way genuine trust in the Lord must constantly move us to welcome His word and allow Him to transform our lives. Like the Blessed Virgin Mary, we have to welcome the Word of God and give flesh and blood to Him in our daily life of sacrifice and surrender.
