Americans hold diverse spiritual beliefs when it comes to healing and the supernatural. Let’s explore some of these perspectives:
1. Belief in God or a Higher Power:
Over 90% of U.S. adults believe in God or another higher power. Among them:
54% believe in “God as described in the Bible.”
34% believe in some other higher power or spiritual force in the universe.
Only 10% do not believe in any higher power.
2. Belief in Spirits and Unseen Forces:
Two-thirds of Americans believe in spirits or unseen spiritual forces. This belief is more common among Protestants (72%) and Catholics (68%) than among Jewish Americans (33%.
3. Belief in the Afterlife:
Heaven: 71% of Americans believe in heaven, where people can be reunited with deceased loved ones, meet God, and have perfectly healthy bodies/
Hell: 61% believe in Hell.
Reincarnation: Fewer than 50% of Americans believe in reincarnation.
4. Supernatural Healing:
66% believe people can be physically healed supernaturally by God.
68% have personally prayed for such healing.
However, only 27% have actually experienced a miraculous physical healing that couldn’t be explained by normal processes or medical procedures.
