General Douglas MacArthur, during World War II, famously declared to the people of the Philippine Islands, “I shall return.” This resolute statement was made after he was ordered to leave the Philippines, which were under Japanese invasion.
His promise echoed the determination of our Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:1-4: I shall come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also.").
In the face of adversity, both MacArthur and Christ expressed unwavering commitment.
While MacArthur’s return took approximately 2½ years, he eventually landed on Leyte’s shores in October 1944, fulfilling his pledge.
Similarly, Jesus assured humanity of His return from heaven to judge the living and the dead, a promise rooted in His own words which can occur at any moment.
Are you ready if Christ returns today?
