Main Idea: When a person is caught sinning, he or she often tries to make an excuse, but the reality is that no excuse can justify a person’s sin.
Verse: “Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate” (Genesis 3:12 NKJV).
One day my wife Jessica hid a bag of candy on the top shelf of a closet. Our three-year-old son Caleb found a ladder, climbed to the top step, and found the candy. I did not hear the kids making any noise for a while so I went looking for them to see what they were doing. I found Caleb and our one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Katie sitting in the middle of a pile of candy wrappers. “What are you eating?,” I exclaimed, “Caleb, you know you are not allowed to touch the candy.” “But, dada,” he said, “baby Kase looove candy.” He tried to convince me that he not get into the candy for himself, he did it for his sister. This sounds like what Adam said to God when he got caught eating the sinful fruit. He said, “That woman, that you gave me, handed me the fruit.” In one excuse, Adam blamed both his wife and God for his own mistake. But, when Adam ate the fruit, he was disobeying God and he suffered the consequences of doing wrong.
