Nobody Knew He Was Gone
Contributed by Bret Toman on Jun 15, 2009 (message contributor)
NOBODY KNEW HE WAS GONE
The rent hadn’t been paid, so the landlord came knocking. For years, the rent was paid automatically from the tenant’s bank account. But suddenly, there were no funds available and no response from the tenant. When he didn’t come to the door, the landlord let himself in to see what was going on. The lights were on. The TV was on. And even though it wasn’t the Christmas season, there was a Christmas tree up. On the coffee table was a TV guide, opened up to a date in December, 5 years previous. And then, in a recliner next to the coffee table was a collection of bones. A man dead over five years and nobody missed him. Nobody knew he was gone.
