Mark Twain was a brilliant writer who used his fair share of idioms, and he used our idiom this morning when he wrote Pudd’nhead Wilson in 1894. This is what he wrote, Behold, the fool saith, "Put not all thine eggs in the one basket" which is but a manner of saying, "Scatter your money and your attention"; but the wise man saith, "Put all your eggs in the one basket and watch that basket." (Mark Twain, Pudd’nhead Wilson, 1894)
I trust that this is what we have found with Jesus, that he’s more than a basket to put one of our eggs in, but that he is the basket that we are to fully entrust ourselves to, trusting ourselves fully to Jesus and watching him like a hawk (excuse the idiom).
