The Coffee Pot at Cana
Mae Fortson relays the story of her church coffee pot. Whoever drank the last cup would often fail to replenish the pot for the next person.
The secretary wanted to motivate her staff to be more responsible, so she taped a neatly-typed plea to the pot. It read: “If Jesus drank the last cup of coffee, what would he have done? Go thou and do likewise.”
The next morning she found this scrawled response: “Jesus would have turned the water into wine instead of coffee.”
When we ask the question: “What would Jesus do?” we don’t always agree, especially in “disputable matters.”
