I read a story the other day. Once, a boy and his sister were spending a week with their grandparents on their farm. And grandpa gave the boy a slingshot to play with out in the woods. One day the boy saw Grandpa’s pet duck. And just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, and hit the duck square in the head, and killed it. In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the woodpile. But as he did so he saw his sister watching. After lunch the next day Grandpa said, “Suzy, let’s wash the dishes.” But Suzy said, “Grandpa, Billy told me he wanted to help in the kitchen.” And she whispered to him, “Remember the duck?” So Billy did the dishes. Later that day, when it was time to do chores, Suzy smiled and said, Grandpa, Billy told me he wanted to do my chores.’ And she whispered again, “Remember the duck?” After several days of Billy doing both his chores and Suzy’s, Billy finally couldn’t stand it any longer. He went to Grandpa and confessed he had killed his duck. Grandpa gave him a hug, and said, “I know. I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing. And because I love you, I forgave you. But I was just wondering how long you would let Suzy make a slave out of you.’
