I READ THE GRIPPING STORY RECENTLY ABOUT PAUL KEATING, WHO ONE FEBRUARY NIGHT IN 1980, WAS WALKING HOME TO HIS GREENWICH VILLAGE APARTMENT WHEN HE WITNESSED TWO ARMED MUGGERS ROBBING A COLLEGE STUDENT. KEATING HAD EVERY REASON TO AVOID THE PROBLEM – HE DIDN’T KNOW THE STUDENT, NO ONE WOULD HAVE EVER KNOWN HE HAD SEEN THE CRIME, HE WAS OUTNUMBERED, AND HE HAD NOTHING TO GAIN BY TAKING SUCH A RISK. YET, DESPITE THE OBVIOUS, HE RAN AND JUMPED ON THE MUGGERS WHILE THE STUDENT ESCAPED AND RAN FOR HELP. MOMENTS LATER, TWO SHOTS RANG OUT AND THE MUGGERS FLED. PAUL KEATING LAY DEAD. AT HIS FUNERAL, MAYOR EDWARD KOCH EULOGIZED KEATING SAYING, "NOBODY WAS WATCHING PAUL KEATING ON THE STREET THAT NIGHT. NOBODY MADE HIM STEP FORWARD IN THE TIME OF CRISIS. HE DID IT BECAUSE OF WHO HE WAS."

1. INWARD CHARACTER ALWAYS CREATES COURAGE, BUT TO CREATE CHARACTER, GOD MUST REBUILD THE BELIEVER’S HEART.
