Pharmaceutical companies are reaping a windfall for drugs for low income people under the new Medicare Part D drug program. The law exempts Part D drugs from “best price” rebates drug makers have been required to give to the state Medicaid programs since ‘91. U.S. taxpayers will pick of the tab expected to be several billion dollars. (NY Times 7/18/06)
