Media Danger For Kids Just-released medical studies find constant exposure to media may be harmful to children. The studies link TV and video games to a host of modern youth ills, including obesity, sexual activity, consumerism, and antisocial behavior. The more TV 3rd-and-4th-graders watch, the more frequently they ask parents for the food, beverages, and toys they see advertised. White 12- to 14-year-olds with a heavy diet of sexually oriented TV, music, movies and magazines are more than twice as likely to have intercourse at age 14 to 16 than teens who consume less sexy media. The more time school-age children spend watching TV, the more calories they consume, largely commonly advertised foods. (Kansas City Star 4/4/06)
