Pentecostal Power From its origins in an AME Church on Azusa Street in Los Angeles, Pentecostalism has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing Christian movement. The World Christian Encyclopedia reports more than 500 million followers, comprising 25% of the world’s Christians, up from 6% in 1906. The World Christian Database says there are nearly 80 million renewalists in the U.S. including Pentecostals, Charismatics, and neo-Charismatics, 84 million in Brazil, 72 million in China, 41 million in Nigeria, 38 million in India, and 25 million in the Philippines.
