· In ’00, 82% of people 25 and older had graduated from high school and 25% had at least a bachelor’s degree. In ’90, the figures were 75% and 20%.

· More than 90% of households owned a car, van or truck in ’00, the highest share ever, and 18% owned 3 or more vehicles. 76% of workers drove to work alone, up 3% from ’90. People are spending more time driving to work often from rural settings where better-paying jobs are scarce. More than 4 million people worked at home in ’00, a sharp increase over ’90.

· Family incomes grew and so did their homes. More than 1 in 4 homes has 7 rooms or more, up slightly from ’90. This confirms data showing that nearly 1 of 5 new homes exceeds 5,000 square feet. In ’00, the median monthly mortgage was $1,307.(NY Times 8/6/01)
