Studies in child development have documented behavioral differences in children even in the first year. In one study, a barrier was placed between the child and his or her mother. The boys, wanting to get back to Mommy, try to get around or over the barrier, or they try to knock it down. The male response is physical, and it’s aimed at solving the problem. The female children, on the other hand, verbalized their distress, and their mommies came and picked them up. The female response is verbal.
