Learning Faith From Joseph At Christmas
By Ray Hollenbach on Feb 20, 2026
The Christmas narratives are not merely familiar stories but Spirit-breathed instruction. Joseph’s life offers four profound lessons in righteousness and obedience.
Learning Faith from Joseph at Christmas
The birth narratives in Matthew and Luke are not sentimental traditions but formative Scripture. Joseph of Nazareth stands as a model of humble obedience, relational righteousness, patience under pressure, and attentive responsiveness to God’s guidance. His life challenges modern believers to embrace God’s sovereignty, act with compassion, resist rash decisions, and remain faithful even when divine direction comes only once. Christmas is not merely a celebration of Christ’s birth but an invitation to deeper discipleship.
We get the Christmas story from the scriptures. What we know of the birth of Jesus comes from the inspired words of the gospels. These passages, found in the first two chapters of Matthew and Luke, are some of the most well-known Bible verses in history.
1. Poor Joseph—God didn’t get his approval before acting.
2. The narrative reveals the actions of a righteous man.
3. Joseph resisted the urge to act rashly.
4. God gave Joseph a dream, a dream that would change his life forever.
