About Richard
  • Education: Doctor of Theology - Covington Theological Seminary (2007), Master of Ministry - Temple Baptist Seminary (2000), Associate of Science in Computer Science Technology - Pellissippi State Technical Community College (1988); I also studied Music Composition at the University of Tennessee
  • Experience: I have more than 20 years experience in both full-time and part-time ministry, serving various churches as Youth Pastor, Minister of Music, Minister of Education, and Associate Pastor. In October 2001 I began my tenure as Pastor of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN.
  • Family: I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Kay, for 30 years. My life and my ministry would have been very incomplete without her. She teaches women’s groups, plays the keyboard, and works with teens in AWANA. We have two sons, Daniel and Steven. Daniel is married to Shelbi Deane, and they have given us our first grandchild, Madison Anna, who was born on January 25, 2005.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: The best advice ever given to me about preaching came from an old retired pastor just after I announced my call to preach. He said, "Son, a lot of people are going to tell you to just open your mouth and God will fill it. But if you don’t study, He’ll only fill it with hot air." I haven’t stopped studying in more than 20 years.
  • Books that have had an impact: "The Gospel According to Jesus" by John MacArthur "Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God" by J.I. Packer "Spurgeon v. Hyper-Calvinism" by Iain H. Murray "Dispensatonal Truth" by Clarence Larkin "Rightly Dividing the Word" by Clarence Larkin "Hard to Believe" by John MacArthur "21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadeship" by John Maxwell "The Chemistry of the Blood" by M.R. DeHaan "Things to Come" by J. Dwight Pentecost
  • Hobbies: My hobbies are collecting historical biblical documents, reading, and gardening.
  • What I want on my tombstone: He was faithful in preaching the Word.
