• Comment to those looking at my sermons: I only hope you find something that will help you share Jesus with those that God has called you to minister in Word and Sacrament. I pray for God's anointing on your life. I pray for His favor and blessing. May His direct your studies and may He anoint you with His Presence and Power.
• Sermon or series that made a difference: Anything on Spiritual formation Writing the book - Yes, I Will Follow You!
• One of my favorite illustrations: To see the Christian life as music being played by an orchestra. To see Christian growth as a flower and vegetable garden - understanding the both the seasons of growth and harvest. To see the Christian walk as a complete movie and not a series of snapshots.
• Family: I have a wonderful family with Rebekah my wife (married in 1981) and three wonderful children and one wonderful grandchild.
• Best advice given to me about preaching: Remember you can only speak to those present. Share Jesus. They are all saints in the making. Everyone is to be loved, accepted and needed.
• Books that have had an impact: Anything written by Richard Foster - especially Celebration of Discipline and Prayer. Any book by Leonard Sweet. The writings of John Wesley - especially his sermons. A new collection of writings called Purity. Paul Tournier - A Listening Ear. Mildred Wyncoop - Theology of Love. Living the Lord's Prayer by Weigelt and Freeborn. Anything by Andrew Murray, Bill Hybels and Lois Tverberg. Nothing as important however as God's Word - slowly, steadily read, prayed and saturated upon each day.
• Hobbies: Walking, gardening, reading, writing and playing with our border collie
• If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: We are saved from sin to live a life of holiness - of being restored to the image of Christ. This enables us to live a life in harmony with the LORD, with one another and with our world at large. We are to already be enjoying heaven.
• What I want on my tombstone: Hopefully, will not have a tombstone - will have ashes sprinkled near Mt. Ranier, the Redwoods and then others placed where every DW wishes.
