About Brian
  • Education: B.A. in religion from Central Wesleyan College (now Southern Wesleyan University) in 1989. M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1993.
  • Experience: I began in ministry in 1988 with a small church youth group. I have served churches in South Carolina, Kentucky, Texas, Indiana and North Carolina. I have been youth pastor, music minister/worship leader, children’s pastor, young adult pastor and chaplain of a Christian school. I have served McAdenville as Senior Pastor since 2002.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Beg, borrow, steal but "quote"...I’ve gained much help so many and I am hopeful that what God has helped me lay out can help you.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: My daughter Emily, when she was very young, loved to sing "Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there" along with our Gaither CD. On one long trip, she began to sing when the music wasn’t playing, "Take your car to the Lord, and leave it there..." and she continued to insert different things in the sentence that we were to take and leave with the Lord. Priceless!
  • Family: My wife is Loretta and I have two daughters, Emily and Ashley.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: They come back to hear me again and again and don’t fall asleep. I suppose that says more than anything else.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: Nobody has a more supportive wife.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: "Start with the Bible, anything else is a speech." --Ralph Lewis, professor at Asbury Seminary "If it comes down to having time to pray or prepare, you better prepare." --Rev. Steve Deneff (College Wesleyan Church in Marion, IN)
  • Books that have had an impact: Abide in Christ, by Andrew Murray The Applause of Heaven, by Max Lucado The Cost of Discipleship, by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
  • Hobbies: Guitar, singing with local quartet of preachers, golf
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Don’t try to make it to heaven by the skin of your teeth (an old testimony) but "take hold of that for which Christ took hold" of you. Live holy, live faithfully, live purposefully.
  • What I want on my tombstone: Nothing, I’d rather be raptured!
