This clip, from Drive Thru History with Dave Stotts "The Gospels" looks at why the book of Matthew starts with a long list of names, a genealogy. Matthew was writing to a Hebrew audience and knew that he was making a case that held tightly to the Jewish law and lineage grated specific authority. Did Jesus have the right credentials? Was he qualified to make the claims that he did?
