Lamentations 4
God’s Anger Satisfied
How the gold has lost its luster!
See how the precious children of Jerusalem,
Even the jackals feed their young,
The parched tongues of their little ones
The people who once ate the richest foods
The guilt
Our princes once glowed with health—
But now their faces are blacker than soot.
Those killed by the sword are better off
Tenderhearted women
But now the anger of the LORD is satisfied.
Not a king in all the earth—
Yet it happened because of the sins of her prophets
They wandered blindly
“Get away!” the people shouted at them.
The LORD himself has scattered them,
We looked in vain for our allies
We couldn’t go into the streets
Our enemies were swifter than eagles in flight.
Our king—the LORD’s anointed, the very life of our nation—
Are you rejoicing in the land of Uz,
O beautiful Jerusalem,
