Father's Deep Love
Contributed on May 25, 2024
In this story, Jesus leaves the ending open. There was still time for the self-righteous to repent as well. There is still time for you. Have you drifted far from God?
Opening illustration: Play the video “Daddy’s Love.” Introduction: On this ''Father's Day'' we will take an in-depth look at the genuine love of God, which is depicted in the love of the prodigal's earthly father. The sinfulness of the son was great, but the graciousness of ...read more

Cost Of Freedom 3
Contributed on May 24, 2024
“What the Church needs today is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more novel methods, but men whom the Holy Ghost can use—men of prayer, men mighty in prayer” (E.M. Bounds).
Opening illustration: “What the Church needs today is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more novel methods, but men whom the Holy Ghost can use—men of prayer, men mighty in prayer” (E.M. Bounds). The church is going in the wrong direction. It only needs the Holy Spirit, and ...read more

Cost Of Freedom 2
Contributed on May 24, 2024
For some that means accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior so you might be set free from the penalty and presence of sin, and then learn how to live each day free from sin's power.
Opening illustration: You ever watch those shows about these submarines that go down 2 and a half miles to the wreck of the Titanic? That’s one thing that I think I could never do. To be crammed into a machine not much bigger than a telephone booth with 2 other guys, 2 miles below the surface of ...read more

Cost Of Freedom 1
Contributed on May 24, 2024
Cost of any freedom has never been cheap. For our freedom, Christ died and shed His blood as a ransom for our sins. If the cost was not paid by His blood, we would only be redeemed temporarily and would continue to live as slaves like the folks of the OT.
Opening illustration: With the dismantling of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the subsequent lifting of the iron curtain, Eastern Europeans jubilantly celebrated the freedom they had long been denied. However, some of the first “freedoms” to be exercised in these formerly communist countries were ...read more

Humility Of Christ
Contributed on May 24, 2024
In our text we see the Lord Jesus loving men who did not deserve it. Luke (22:24) tells us that at the Lord’s Supper, just after Jesus announced that one of them would betray Him, the disciples got into a dispute about which of them was the greatest.
Opening illustration: We all can relate to Linus in the “Peanuts” cartoon strip when he shouts in frustration, “I love mankind; it’s people I can’t stand!” It’s easy to love the human race in the abstract, but when it comes to loving specific irritating people that I can’t avoid, the process ...read more

SPIRITUAL GAMBLING The problem of compulsive gambling may seem foreign to most of us. Yet experts believe that millions of Americans are psychologically addicted to gambling. It gives them the excitement of hope and risk, but it usually ends in defeat. It is indeed a temporary pleasure. For ...read more

In March 2009, a 62-year old woman was charged with stealing more than $73,000 from her church in the state of Washington. When the detectives interrogated her, she told them: “Satan had a big part in the theft.” It sounds like she was saying that the devil made her do it. Satan may have played ...read more

We know a family who had been searching in vain for their teenage son (+ 18) for a number of months. Finally they located him in Colorado Springs and went down to see him. He was unrecognizable ~ hair not washed for months, uncut beard, and disgusting odor reeked from his body. He had been living ...read more
