Summary: The Bible teaches that sin has severe consequences, not only in this life but also in the life to come.

The Bible teaches that sin has severe consequences, not only in this life but also in the life to come. When we live in sin, we are said to be "dead in our transgressions and sins" (Ephesians 2:1). Moreover, the Bible goes further to say that those who live in sin are children of the devil.

What does it mean to be dead in sin?

To be dead in sin means to be spiritually dead, separated from God's life and love. This state is a result of Adam's rebellion against God, which affected all humanity (Romans 5:12-19). The Bible says, "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). This death refers to spiritual death, which includes being alienated from God and His goodness.

Who is the child of the devil?

According to the Bible, those who live in sin are considered children of the devil. Jesus said to the Pharisees, "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies" (John 8:44).

1 John 3:10: "This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God's child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister."

Acts 13:10: "You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord?"

Living in sin has severe consequences, including being spiritually dead and being considered a child of the devil. However, there is hope! Through faith in Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven, reconciled to God, and become children of God (John 1:12). Let us turn away from sin and turn to God, who is love and life.
