BEGINNING NEW BEGINNINGS

INTRO – Zechariah 4:10 tells us not to despise small beginnings. Most big discoveries, companies, and ministries started small, but how do we start them in the first place? Who better to learn from on how to beginning small beginnings than the One who began everything from nothing.

1. IN THE BEGINNING… Start Working on Things Behind the Scenes

Genesis 1:1-3

[1]In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

[2]And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

[3]And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

The word of God begins with the account of creation. The Bible says the earth was without order and structure, empty, and covered in darkness. Hebrews 4:13 tells that God can see in the dark, but He begin with creation with "Let there be light." I believe it was to shed light on everything else He wanted to illuminate to our understanding everything that went into creating everything from nothing. Also, God created everything in the first six days. In those six days, God made everything before He made man because God made everything for man and did everything He did for man before there was no one there to see Him do it. Small beginnings don't begin in the public eye with public accolades. Small beginnings begin in the privacy of obscurity where no one is looking, no one notices, and nobody cares. The same way God began creation before there was anyone there to acknowledge His efforts, the creative process of beginning small beginnings usually starts behind the scenes.

Matthew 6:1-6

6 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

What is rewarded openly is what is initiated privately because the motive is not to be seen. The motive is to be obedient to the vision and dream that God showed to you so you are willing to use what you have, start where you are, and do what you can do... even if nobody sees you.

Hebrews 11:3

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Things that can’t be seen are the foundation of the things that will be seen. The things that are seen are made of things that are not seen.

What God said and did when there was no one around to impress framed the worlds. What you do behind the scenes will frame your world.

2. IN THE BEGINNING… Celebrate the Small Accomplishments

Genesis 1:4

[4]And God saw the light, that it was good...

Genesis 1:10

And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:12

And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:18

And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:21

And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:25

And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:31

And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.

At the end of each day, God paused looked at his efforts and assessed His progress and saw that it was good. While you are in the early stages of transitioning from small beginnings to accomplishing big things, don't forget to occasionally say "That was pretty good, if I may say so myself!" And it was good! Break your big dreams down into small, measurable, attainable tasks and learn to celebrate small accomplishments and appreciate the little things along to path to big things. Learn to appreciate the Step-by-Step process.

Psalm 37:23

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

God ordained and ordered the Step-by Step process! Going through the steps of the creative process is part of the preparation process. When you know how you did it, you will know how to keep it. People that get too much, too fast tend to lose it. I once heard that the average person that attains instant wealth is broke within 5 years. Don't despise the steps. Take the time to acknowledge the step-by-step progress that you've made, and celebrate yourself at each step. You celebrate yourself in the unfinished project to encourage yourself to finish it! 1 Samuel 30:6 says that, when no one else was there to encourage David that David encouraged himself. When is the last time you celebrated something you did? You have to take the time to celebrate YOU in the beginning of small beginnings, so you can encourage yourself to continue what God has called you to do!

3. IN THE BEGINNING… Expect periods When You Don't See Growth or Change and Expect a Change!

Genesis 1:5

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

We think a day starts with the morning and ends at night but the truth of the matter is, "the evening and the morning were the first day." Don’t be discouraged by the dark! The periods of time during which you don't see progress and don't see change are just evidence that things are moving according to schedule because it is always darkest before the dawn.

Acts 16:25-26

25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

Midnight is not the end of yesterday. Midnight is the beginning of tomorrow! The very presence of the darkness is evidence of the fact that the dawn is coming!

Proverbs 4:18 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.

Don't be discouraged by the darkness before the dawn. The evening and the morning was the first day. Then the evening and the morning was the second day, and so on and so on. The progress from the beginning of small beginnings to the fruition of big dreams is a step by step process from brighter to brighter to brighter until the vision comes to pass.

Habakkuk 2:2 says, For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Don't be discouraged by the delay. Everything is right on schedule. If the darkness is present, then the brighter and brighter and brighter is coming!

What you did behind the scenes is evidence of the fact that brighter and brighter is coming.!

Genesis 1:6

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

Genesis 1:11, 20, and 24

11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

Genesis 1:20

20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

Genesis 1:24

24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

There were some things that God had to begin from the beginning as he spoke to nothing as something appeared. And there were some other things that God brought forth from the things He began from small beginning. If God commanded it to "Bring forth", that means it was already in there. God showed by example that if we release our faith to begin small beginnings, even though it may not start out as much, the multiplication and increase is automatic because it's already in there! All you have to do it get it started. Your obedience to God is the seed you need! The blessing of God to make it "Bring forth" is already upon your obedience to begin at the beginning... no matter how small the beginning!
