John 1 v 19 - 34 Behold, the Lamb of God! v 29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. Behold, the Lamb of God! (a) The Lamb of God Prophesied Gen. 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together. (b) The Lamb of God Typified Exod. 12:5,6 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: 6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. (c) The Lamb of God Crucified Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. (d) The Lamb of God Glorified Rev. 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. Rev.7: 9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; 10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. (e) The Lamb of God Identified John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. The Lamb of God ─ Jesus Christ Alone Is : - 1.The Sinless Lamb I Peter 1:18,19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: JOHN STOOD UP AND SAID HE IS THE LAMB OF GOD.

A.HE IS THE PROMISED LAMB.

B.HE IS THE PURE LAMB. 1 Peter 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

C.HE IS THE PERFECT LAMB. (a) Pilate's View Luke 23:4 Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.

(b) Centurion's View Matthew 27:54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. (c) Judas's View Matthew 27:4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. (d) God's View Romans 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: 2.The Substitutionary Lamb I Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. A. Lambs were commonly used for sin-offerings in the Old Testament.

Lev. 4:32 And if he bring a lamb for a sin offering, he shall bring it a female without blemish.

B. Three lambs were used for cleansing a leper.

Lev. 14:10 And on the eighth day he shall take two he lambs without blemish, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish, and three tenth deals of fine flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and one log of oil. 11 And the priest that maketh him clean shall present the man that is to be made clean, and those things, before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:

C. Two lambs were killed every day (9 a.m.) & (3 p.m.)

Ex 29:38 Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar; two lambs of the first year day by day continually. 39 The one lamb thou shalt offer in the morning; and the other lamb thou shalt offer at even:

This speaks of continual substitution. The blood was shed every day, twice a day, for the sins of Israel. There was daily intercession!

Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

D. The Paschal Lamb was slain every year at Passover. Ex 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. 3. The Sacrificial Lamb "which taketh away the sin" I Cor. 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: (a) Cain and Abel - THE BLOOD OF ATONEMENT (b) Noah offered a lamb - THE BLOOD OF ASSURANCE.

Genesis 8:21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. (c) The blood of the Passover lamb - THE BLOOD OF ACCEPTANCE Ex 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. 4. The Submissive Lamb Isa. 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. (a) LOOK IN GETHSEMANE: Luke 22:44 “ And His sweat as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.” (b) LOOK AT GABBATHA: John 19:13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. (c) LOOK TO GOLGOTHA: Matthew 27:42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. Matthew 26:53 "Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father,

and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?"

They bound the hands of Jesus in the garden where He prayed;

They led Him thro' the streets in shame.

They spat upon the Savior so pure and free from sin;

They said, "Crucify Him; He's to blame."

Upon His precious head they placed a crown of thorns;

They laughed and said, "Behold the King!"

They struck Him and they cursed Him and mocked His holy name

All alone He suffered everything.

When they nailed Him to the cross, His mother stood nearby,

He said, "Woman, behold thy son!"

He cried, "I thirst for water," but they gave Him none to drink.

Then the sinful work of man was done.

To the howling mob He yielded; He did not for mercy cry.

The cross of shame He took alone.

And when He cried, "It's finished," He gave Himself to die;

Salvation's wondrous plan was done.

He could have called ten thousand angels

To destroy the world and set Him free.

He could have called ten thousand angels,

But He died alone, for you and me.

5. The Suffering Lamb Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6. The Slain Lamb Rev. 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 7. The Sovereign Lamb Rev. 7:10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. 8. The Saving Lamb John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. (a) “Behold” It is a word of Explanation 26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose. Salvation Not in John's Baptism Get your eyes off all else and look to Jesus. (b) “Behold” It is a word of Invitation Isaiah 45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. (c) “Behold” It is a word of Exhortation John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. Matthew 7, vs 13 & 14."Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. - Happy if with my latest breath, I may but speak Christ's Name,

Preach Him in life and cry in death, "Behold - Behold the Lamb."
