Psalm 148:1-5, Angels 4-5-08
Today we’re going to talk about “ANGELS”, we don’t hear a lot about angels today but angels are just as real as you and I, and we’re going to see that from the source that ends all controversy about any subject and that of coarse is the Word of God. We’ll see that there are good angels as well as bad angels; the bad angels are unclean spirits, {these unclean spirits are fallen angels that were before deceived by Satan were good angels} we read about them in the Bible. There are Gods angels and there are Satans angels, today we refer to these fallen angels, as “demons”, although the word “demon” is not found in our K.J.V.
1) 1st of all let me say that God created the angels before the earth was made:
Psalm 148:1-5 1Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights. 2Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. 3Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. 4Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. 5Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.
NEHEM. 9:6 Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.
And Paul tells us in Col.1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
In Job 38:4-7, we find that God said to Job 4Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. 5Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? 6Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; 7When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? [An idem, which is an expression of the meaning.]
2) They are innumerable:
Revelation 5:11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, Hebrews 12:22, "But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,"
3) They are a higher order than Man:
Psalm 8:3-5 3When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels,
4) And angels never die as men die, because they are spirits. They are eternal: and let me say that mans spirit and soul will never die, these “bodies” will one day run its coarse, but we’re promised a new glorified body like Jesus at the rapture. ----The spirit is the part of man that “knows”. 1st cor.2: 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him?
The soul of man is the “seat of affection”, Jesus said in, Matt.26:38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful,
And our bodies are the houses that the spirit and soul live in, one day our spirit and soul will leave our body because of death. Paul said in 2nd cor.5: 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Again; the Angels are of a higher order than man in our natural state. Luke 20:34-36, And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 35But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
Heb.1: 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? And of coarse this is a reference to Gods angels, the good angels. Peter was in jail and the Lord sent an angel to get him out.
Acts 12: 6-10 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. 7And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. 8And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he* saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. 9And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. 10When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.
~ I remember a number of years ago I went to the Anderson jockey lot to hand out “gospel hour tracts,”****** and another time that I’ll never forget, I was about to over sleep and be late for work, when I felt my shoulder nudged a couple of times, I was laying on my left side facing away from my wife, and I thought at first my wife did it to wake me up, so I turned over to show her that I was awake, but guess what, she was facing the other way sound asleep. And as I thought about it, I believed that our Guardian Angel woke me up. ~ Heb.1: 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? What a comforting thought.
Let me point out right here that at one time all angels were Gods angels, but Satan deceived 1/3 of these angels into believing the lie that he, “Satan” was going to take over Gods throne in heaven, Satan, who was an angel himself before he rebelled against God, before he rebelled his name was Lucifer, he was the high sheriff you could say of heaven as he had the honored position of guarding the Throne of God.
We read about this rebellion in Isaiah 14:12-15 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer,*** son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:[angels] I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.---5- I wills--
Lucifer also had something to do with music: we read in Ezekiel 28: 11-19 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 12Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. 13Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 16By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, “pride” thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. 18Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. 19All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more. -ISA.14-EZK.28
BUT LET ME REMIND US, HE HAS NOT BEEN DESTROYED AS YET, HE AT THIS PRESENT TIME IS ON THIS EARTH ALONG WITH HIS ANGELS DOING ALL THEY CAN TO CAUSE MAN TO GO TO HELL, HE HATES God and he hates you and I. Peter tells us in 1 Peter 5:8 8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
He has never been in hell as of yet but it’s a Bible truth that he will be.
How do we know that he deceived 1/3 of the angels to follow him? Listen as I read from Rev. 12: there was 1/3 of the angles that thought Satan could and was going to take over Gods throne and they were cast out of heaven with Satan, all at the same time. They were cast down to the ground, “earth”; they were already here on earth before man was created.
Revelation 12: 4 4And his tail “Satans” drew the third part of the stars of heaven, “angels” and did cast them to the earth:
7-9 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels “notice Michael has an army of good angels” fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Jesus said in, Luke 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. And by the way, this tells us that the Son of God was there in heaven before He ever came to earth and born as Jesus.
And let me also say right here that “the lake of fire” was not created for man, it was created for Satan and his angels. Today the Lord has His angels and the Devil has his. Matthew 25: 31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory,** and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:-----vs. 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: but the sad truth is that if people are going to follow the things of the devil they’ll also follow him to the lake of fire.
Because the devil is now on earth is the reason there will never be any peace on the earth until he is in the pit.
After the 7-year tribulation the devil will be bound in chains and placed in the bottomless pit to remain there during the 1000-year reign of Jesus Christ on the earth, that is why there will be peace during Jesus reign. We read in Revelation 20:1-3 1And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. -------------- 7And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 10And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
So if we’ll just stop and think about it, God still has 2/3 of the angels on His side, the devil has 1/3 on his, which side to you sounds the strongest? But let me quickly say, if God had no angels on His side, Who still is the strongest? God is God and what He so says is how it will be. God could annihilate the entire planted if He decided to. But He will keep His gracious Word. God cannot lie. “Heb. 6:18 it was impossible for God to lie,”
There are only two things that God cannot do, and that is “die and lie”. Jesus said in Rev.1: 18-- behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen;- you and I that are saved will live as long as He does, and that is forever.
5) Well we’re talking about “angels” today. They are mighty in strength:
Psalm 103:19-20 19The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all. 20Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word
2 Peter 2:11, "... 11Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might
6) Gods holy angels will do exactly what He says and will do it with out hesitation.
Psalm 103:20-21 19The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all. 20Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word
7) God’s angels are loyal to Him: Acts 12: 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
8) They praise and worship God:
Nehemiah 9:6 6Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee .
9) They deliver divine revelations to Man:
Galatians 3:19-20 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
10) We have been in the presents of angels perhaps many times and never knew it. Hebrews 13: 2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. ----form of man--Gen.19:-- 2 Corinthians 11:1 14And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
