“We are people of flesh and blood. That is why Jesus became one of us. He died to destroy the devil, who had power over death. But He also died to rescue all of us who live each day in fear of dying.” Hebrews 2:14-15 (CEV)
Why do most people fear death? Because -
1.DEATH PUTS AN END TO ALL EARTHLY ACTIVITES.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 (MKJV) - “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no work, nor plan, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave where you go.”
People are afraid to die because they are enjoying and have put all their hearts in all their earthly activities. They have been dreaming and accomplishing every plan of their hearts all their life that they think eternity cannot offer them greater glory and opportunities.
But we cannot bring any worldly achievement to either heaven or hell.
2.DEATH STRIPS US OF ALL EARTHLY POSSESSIONS.
1 Timothy 6:7 (MKJV) – “For we brought nothing into the world, and it is clear that we can carry nothing out.”
People are afraid of dying because they will be leaving some earthly treasures they have accumulated for a long time.
Isn’t it much better if Jesus, the source of all riches and wealth, becomes the treasure of our life?
Illustration:
One rich woman has built the biggest mansion. It contains hundreds and thousands of bedrooms, bathrooms, doors, windows, chandeliers, etc... And all its materials were made from high quality products that has been purchased from other countries. She has various models of luxury cars with fine drivers. And she’s been paying thousands of dollars monthly to hundreds of her servants. But when she died, she had left everything and has brought nothing into her uncertain eternal destiny.
3.DEATH LEADS YOU TO AN UNCERTAIN DESTINY.
Job 16:22 (MKJV) – “For the years that are few will come, and I shall go the way from where I shall not return.”
If a person is unprepared in this earthly life, he/she will be facing a fearful destiny that will not allow him/her to go back to this earth.
Hebrews 9:27 (NIV) – Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.”
Right away after death, man will be judged for his eternal destiny. His soul will not wander from one planet to another, but he will definitely go to either heaven or hell. Though man will face the Great White Throne Judgment (Rev. 20:11-15), which is the final judgment, but his soul will definitely settle in hell if he’s unprepared, to wait for the day of the Great White Throne Judgment.
But here’s a GOOD NEWS!!!
Hebrews 2:14-15 says that Christ became one of us. Christ destroyed the devil, the power behind death. Christ died to rescue all of us from FEARS of DEATH. And Christ has completely conquered death, giving us the greatest assurance of eternal certainty, that is to have LIFE ETERNAL with Christ!
CONCLUSION:
Live and die for Christ!
