Jesus showed humility by coming from heaven to earth and washing His disciples' feet. When we choose humility, we reflect Christ to the world around us.

Youth Sermon: Humility

George Washington and Humility

Imagine this: You're walking down the hall at school and you see a group of kids struggling to carry a huge box. The teacher is just standing there, watching. Then, out of nowhere, the principal comes over, rolls up his sleeves, and helps the kids lift the box. That's pretty cool, right?

That's kind of what happened once with George Washington. He saw some soldiers struggling to move a log and their boss was just watching. So, Washington got off his horse and helped them out.

George Washington was a great leader, but we have an even better example in Jesus. He was God, but He didn't use that to His advantage. Instead, He became a servant and even died on a cross for us.

George Washington was a great leader, but we have an even better example in Jesus.

Pride and Humility

The Bible tells us to be humble and warns us about being proud. God gives grace to the humble, but He opposes the proud.

(Grab a balloon and a pin)

See this balloon? (Blow it up) This balloon is like someone who is full of pride. They think they're so big and important. But what happens when we pop it? (Pop the balloon) It's gone. Just like that. Pride can destroy us.

Jesus, the Servant

In John 13, Jesus washes His disciples' feet. That was a job for the lowest servant, but Jesus did it to show His love for them. He told them to do the same for others.

So, who can you serve this week? Where do you need to admit you've been too proud? How can you be more like Jesus in your everyday life?

Prayer

Let's pray:

God, help us to be humble like Jesus. Help us to serve others and not think we're too important. Thank you for loving us and showing us how to love others. Amen.
