The sermon's main point is to emphasize the importance of spiritual fitness, which is achieved through prayer, scripture reading, and the Holy Spirit, and its benefits for our lives both in the present and in the life to come.

Introduction

Good morning, beloved family. How blessed we are to be gathered together in God's house today. I want to talk to you about something we often consider in our physical lives but maybe not as much in our spiritual ones. Fitness. Not the kind that involves dumbbells and treadmills, but the kind that requires prayer, scripture reading, and the Holy Spirit. That's right, we're talking about spiritual fitness!

Charles Spurgeon, a respected preacher and author, once said, "If heaven were by merit, it would never be heaven to me, for if I were in it I should say, ‘I am sure I am here by mistake; I am sure this is not my place; I have no claim to it.’ But if it be of grace and not of works, then we may walk into heaven with boldness." Just as we need physical food for physical strength, we need spiritual food for spiritual strength.

I. The Necessity of Spiritual Fitness

The necessity of spiritual fitness is a concept that is often overlooked in our busy, modern lives. However, it is an essential aspect of our spiritual journey and relationship with God. Just as physical fitness is crucial for our bodies, spiritual fitness is vital for our souls. It is the key to a strong, vibrant, and enduring faith, and it is the foundation upon which we can build a fulfilling and meaningful relationship with God.

A. Spiritual fitness is necessary because it equips us to face the challenges and trials of life. Life is full of ups and downs, joys and sorrows, victories and defeats. It is through spiritual fitness that we gain the strength and resilience to navigate these challenges. When we are spiritually fit, we are able to stand firm in our faith, even when the storms of life rage around us. We are able to keep our eyes fixed on God, trusting in His promises and His goodness, even when circumstances seem bleak.

B. In addition, spiritual fitness is necessary because it enables us to grow and mature in our faith. Just as physical fitness involves growth and development, so too does spiritual fitness. It involves a process of learning, growing, and maturing in our understanding of God and His Word. It involves deepening our relationship with God, growing in our love for Him, and becoming more like Christ in our thoughts, words, and actions. Without spiritual fitness, our faith can become stagnant and unfruitful.

C. Furthermore, spiritual fitness is necessary because it empowers us to fulfill our God-given purpose and calling. Each one of us has been created by God for a unique purpose. We have been given gifts, talents, and abilities that are meant to be used for His glory. However, it is only through spiritual fitness that we can fully discover and fulfill this purpose. When we are spiritually fit, we are able to hear God's voice more clearly, discern His will more accurately, and obey His commands more faithfully. We are able to use our gifts and talents in ways that honor God and bless others.

D. Spiritual fitness is also necessary because it prepares us for eternity. Our time on earth is temporary, but our souls are eternal. The choices we make in this life have eternal consequences. When we are spiritually fit, we are able to live with an eternal perspective, recognizing the temporary nature of this world and the eternal significance of our decisions. We are able to live in a way that honors God and prepares us for eternity with Him.

E. Finally, spiritual fitness is necessary because it brings glory to God. Our ultimate purpose in life is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. When we are spiritually fit, we are able to live in a way that reflects God's character, demonstrates His love, and brings glory to His name. We are able to be a light in the world, pointing others to the hope, love, and salvation found in Jesus Christ.
