Matthew 1:18-25 Emmanuel

21 and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

I. His Name identifies His Person...

A. "JE" is the abbreviation for Jehovah.

B. "Sus" is the abbreviation for Saviour.

II. His Name identifies His Purpose:

to be "the saviour of the world".

A. The Mission of the Saviour.

- for he shall save his people from their sins. As Saviour, He lived to save sinners, He died to save sinners, He arose to save sinners, He is now interceding to save sinners, and He is coming again to complete the salvation of sinners!

B. The Meaning of the word 'Saviour'. - One who Delivers, Preserves, Keeps, Protects, and Secures.

III. His Name identifies His People.

A. The Jewish people are considered 'his people'.

The gospel was first preached to the Jews.

B. All who believe in Him are 'His people'.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

IV. His Name identifies His Praise.

A. Jesus is His Manger name. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:

for he shall save his people from their sins."

B. Jesus is His Ministry name. - John 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph

C. Jesus is His Redemption name.

Jn. 19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS

D. Jesus is His Resurrection name. - Mk. 16:6 -

And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him

E. Jesus is His Gospel name. - 2 Cor. 4:5, "For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake."

F. Jesus is His Glorified name. - Phil. 2:9 - 11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father
