A New Song

Psalm 98:1-9

Reading: Psalm 98

Intro: God has given us a NEW song.

We used to sing songs of misery

-“Low friends in low places”

-Songs of heartbreak, anxiety and hopelessness.

Country backward masking…

-Quit drinking, my wife came home and I got my dog back.

Now we sing a new song…

-A song that God has given us…

-Instructions for singing this song, Vs. 4

--Make a joyful noise! roo-ah (Hurray)

--to shout (that comes from deep inside)

--to shout in triumph (over enemies)

--to shout in applause

--to shout for joy

--The Participants – All the earth

--Make a LOUD noise. – impulsively

--Rejoice…ring out with joy.

--AND SING PRAISE! Make music with voices and instruments.

I. It is a song of Worship. Vs. 1

A. For He hath done marvelous things.

-What marvelous thing has God done for you this

week? --today?

--Creation -- Sunset

--Provision

--Protection

B. We must Worship the Lord. For He alone is worthy

II. It is a song of Victory. Vs. 1b

A.His right hand, and His holy arm, hath gotten Him the victory.

B.God is not in a fight with the devil.

C.He is defeated.

1 John 3:8 For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy

the works of the devil.

D.The only way the devil can defeat you is if you let

him.

-Ephesians 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.

- 1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, which

giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

III. It is a song of Salvation. Vs 2-3

A. God revealed Himself and His plan for salvation.

-He has made know His salvation.

-Deuteronomy 30:11-19

-Those who refuse Christ are without excuse.

-It’s right in front of us…how can you refuse.

IV. It is a song of Harmony. Vs 5-8

A. A harmony of instruments.

- Harp “root meaning to twang”

-Trumpet

-Cornet (rams horn)

B. It is a harmony of voices.

- Vs. 5 Voice of a psalm

-Vs. 7 The world and they that dwell therein.

C.It is a harmony of nature.

-Sea

-The floods (rivers and streams give applause)

-The hills be joyful together. (The hill country)

V. It is a song of Expectancy. Vs 9

A.For He cometh to judge the earth…

B.Say what you will, but judgment day is coming.

C.The day of the Lord…the day when Jesus Christ returns to this earth.

D.He will judge the living and the dead at the Great

White Throne judgment.

E.The coming of Christ is either a blessed hope, or

a day of despair.

F.God has a book…are you in it? Rev. 20:11-15

G. The Bible is very clear

1 John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he

that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

H.For those who know Christ we sing a song of expectancy.
