It was my Senior year of high school, and I wanted to have a good date for the upcoming Junior Senior Banquet (a Christian version of the prom). Her name was Jenny. She was the pastor's daughter, and she was cute. When I finally got up the nerve to ask her, she readily said Yes! I was so excited! The banquet was about two weeks away.

But there's another thing you should know. My two friends and I had to take the highway to get to school, and being teenage boys, we would often race each other going to or back home from school. I knew it was wrong, especially when I would see one or both of them almost hit a car while weaving through traffic. We were idiots. Of course, our parents didn't know about this, that would be terrible!

The day finally came for the banquet. I had everything ready. I was going to pick her up in my car at her house. But then something terrible happened: my car wouldn't start! "C'mon, not today! Start, please!" I tried and tried, but it wouldn't start. Then I did something desperate: I prayed! "Lord, you know that this is an important day! I need this car to pick up Jenny for the banquet! Please let it start!" But it still refused to start. And that's when I knew. I was reaping what I had sowed. I had recklessly raced on the highway knowing that it was wrong, and now God was teaching me a lesson.

The truth is, it worked out okay. My friend John was able to borrow his uncle's Cadillac, so we all rode in that. However, poor Jenny had to sit in a car with three other guys. The law of sowing and reaping is real. I learned that at a young age. It applies to everyone, and God is just in seeing that you will always reap what you sow.

Sowing discord among brethren is an abomination in the eyes of the Lord. Considering yourself better than others fosters division but considering others better than yourself fosters unity. Watch out for those who cause divisions and avoid them. Love binds us, discord separates us.
